You really have no control over anything, really. I had a problem with my hosting a few weeks ago. What happened is that I kept getting a 500 errors when I tried to update my sites but I didn't know what was causing the problem. So I searched the internet for an answer and I learn that it was caused by the servers. I contacted my hosting and they told me I was using too much bandwith. I was not aware of this and I would not have found out if I was updating my sites because they never sent me an email. I totally understand where you are coming from. Things will get better.
