Monday (after a very long day at the machine) my right hand and wrist were tingly. That’s the first time that’s happened so naturally I go looking for information on carpal tunnel symptoms. I found many, many sites and a few solutions that I’m going to try – the first one I’m trying today.

I have a really great, very adjustable keyboard tray that will fit my mouse, but my keyboard is wide, with a number pad on the right that I don’t use that often. Subsequently my mouse is way off to the right and that’s not good for wrists.

The idea I’m trying today is – mousing with the left hand. I plan to become an ambidextrous mouser. According to one site, it takes 2 days to 2 weeks to become proficient with a mouse in the off-hand. I switched the buttons so I can click with the inside finger, and yes, it’s going s-l-o-w-l-y today but I’m beginning not to think about the mouse so much after the first few hours. And it’s much more comfortable because the left side of the keyboard has no number pad (less reach to the mouse).

I plan to keep this up for two days at least, and if I have to any precision work may switch to my pen tablet for awhile.

Someone sent me this today. Don’t forget to click the mouse button from time to time.

The company that manufactured my new computer case, NZXT, was offering a very nice poster for free that featured my case (I know that’s geeky – be quiet) so I ordered one.

FedEx just came with a large box. In it were three copies of this poster. That would have been really nice except that (1) whoever put them in the box folded them (!) two times rather than rolling them like, well, a poster and (2) the ends were all torn up like they’d been knocked around quite a bit.

Why even bother? They paid to ship these things via FedEx, and they’re in horrible condition, all cracked and torn. I’m disappointed. :(

I haven’t written in detail about my 5-day ordeal rebuilding my computer last week, after my old Dell 2400′s system board finally bit it. Suffice it to say, I ordered a new system board, Core 2 Duo processor and 2gB of DDR2 memory for a bit over the price the local computer repair shop wanted to try to fix my 4-year-old Dell. So basically I have a brand new, screaming fast machine.

And it’s in a shiny black case from NZXT. I got that from Newegg on sale for about $49. It’s black, nice open side window with blue fans. It fits ATX, baby AT and micro-ATX boards.

This was my first computer build, and this case was extremely easy to work with. I didn’t have any problems with connections, there’s loads of space, and everything went in nicely. It’s sitting here by my desk and I can’t hear anything, despite the four fans running. Very quiet at all times.

The only negative thing I have to say about it is that it scratches easily – I found that out taking off the side panel, and got a nick at the top corner but was careful afterwards so no more scratches to date. The case looks good and seems to be well-built otherwise and I have nothing but good recommendations about it – especially for the great price.
